quotes and snippets
"The Nitrogen in our DNA, the Calcium in our teeth, the Iron in our blood, the Carbon in our apple pies, were made in the interiors of collapsing stars; we are made of star-stuff
We are star-stuff; we are the Universe made manifest, trying to figure itself out
Ignorance is in our bones, but kindness is in our DNA"

"Despite all the political depravity you see in the news today, remind yourself that good things are happening in society every day. When you drive and see a road under construction, remind yourself: good things are being built every day no matter what stupid and corrupt things are happening in the Capitol. Even shit politicians cannot stop good things from being built. New science, new technology, new buildings, new roads, new products, new services, new art is being released every day, it just isn't visible in the news drama cycle and culture wars. Do not allow the for-profit, click-chasing, news drama cycle distort and bias your view of society."

Whenever you go out-of-doors, draw the chin in, carry the crown of the head high, and fill the lungs to the utmost; drink in the sunshine; greet your friends with a smile, and put soul into every handclasp. Do not fear being misunderstood, and do not waste a minute thinking about your enemies. Try to fix firmly in your mind what you would like to do, and then, without veering off direction, you will move straight to the goal.
Keep your mind on the great and splendid things you would like to do, and then, as the days go gliding by, you will find yourself unconsciously seizing upon the opportunities that are required for the fulfillment of your desire, just as the coral insect takes from the running tide the elements that it needs. Picture in your mind the able, earnest, useful person you desire to be, and the thought you hold is hourly transforming you into that particular individual...
Thought is supreme. Preserve a right mental attitude — the attitude of courage, frankness, and good cheer. To think rightly is to create. All things come through desire and every sincere prayer is answered. We become like that on which our hearts are fixed. Carry your chin in and the crown of your head high. We are gods in the chrysalis.
— Elbert Hubbard

There used to be times when a computer helped a writer. Provided simple tools to focus on composition. Enough screen area to frame a thought. An unsophisticated medium to save a piece of work -- a piece of work worth saving.
More importantly, it would not distract. It would sit quietly waiting for letters to be typed or editing commands to be issued. Unaware that it was a virtue rather than a disadvantage, the computer did not offer any means to switch to another task, look up the current word in a thesaurus, make the sentence bold, or italic, or purple on red background. Or to catch up with the news, to like a photo which had just popped up, to get burried in tweets, to hate a hater and to love a meme, to multitask or fork, let the mind wander away, caffeinate the thought that had been, but no longer was.

"Part of why I find using Neocities difficult is that most interesting websites require you to actually engage with them before they’ll reveal their secrets. It’s just like with big philosophical tomes. If you read the introduction to a work of philosophy, flip through random pages, or even just read a Wikipedia article, it’s hard to see the point of most philosophers' work. You have to start at page one and read each sentence, all the way to the end of the book, asking yourself over and over what the author is trying to do. The kinds of philosophy that do sound cool based on a short summary usually turn out to be shallow. In the same way, Neocities sites that look cool usually are boring. The only way to know if something is worth spending time on is to actually spend time on it, making an effort to understand the human consciousnesses who’ve chosen to embody themselves in these websites."

“Dude, i don’t care if it’s porn, furry art, rap music, or movies you wanna make. People are gonna shit on you for everything you do or don’t however they can. Whether it’s belittling your beliefs in yourself that you can make this work and live off what you love doing or just wanting to be an asshole. Most people, especially old farts who try and shit on my generation, are used to being cogs in a machine that gets them money cuz making art is ‘toO hArD tO LiVe oFf oF’. Don’t take career advice from anyone who hasn’t been in your shoes. Why would you take advice from someone who’s never been interested in what you do? Or people that want to see you fail? I don’t wanna see you fail. So if you have nobody telling you to take that leap of faith whenever you have the opportunity, i am. That’s what ‘ISSBROKIE!’ represents. ‘ISSBROKIE!’ is an attitude, Not a character. It’s the ability to tell someone ‘fuck you. i’m gonna do it anyway cuz i’m based and have a fat ass, you old fart. Get back in your cubicle and let my generation shine brighter than yours.’”
— ISSBROKIE!, Steph Monroe, the cutie.

You sensed that you should be following a different path, a more ambitious one,
you felt that you were destined for other things but you had no idea how to achieve them
and in your misery you began to hate everything around you.— Fyodor Dostoevsky
